HONOLUA BAY SURFAS' SURFING EVENT AT DA BAY

Congratulations to all winners and participants of the Billabong Handsome Bugga Honolua Bay Surfa's Event! Overall, this event was a great success! We had 131 competitors who entered the event and many spectators lined up along the neighboring cliff sides to watch. The last heat went into the evening along with the awards ceremony, which required the use of car headlights to light up the staging area.

The surf conditions started off small (one to three feet) in the morning hours, but by 7am, it increased to three and four feet. By the time the first heat got underway at 7:30am, the sets were rolling in at four to five plus Hawaiian Luau Feet! The Peak surf was at four to five feet with slight off shore winds that made for perfect conditions! Three to five second tube rides were the norm for the entire day. Jon (from Surfline.com) predicted that the swell would peak at around 8am and he was RIGHT ON!

A big Mahalo goes out to Surfline for their expertise, which made it easier for us to make the call that the event was on.

All proceeds of this event will be donated to a family in need on the West Side of Maui.

Connor Baxter, the winner of the 2010 Mormaii SUP Moloka'i Pai'lolo SUP Express Race, recently had the opportunity to showcase his talents on the Lower Zambezi River in South Africa.

 

"Conner had the opportunity of being the first Stand Up Paddler down the Zambezi River in November. It was an awesome experience! He put together a video on YouTube... When watching it, you will see hippo heads bobbing up and down..."

Conner will be competing to defend his title in the 2011 Triple Crown of SUP event set to take place this coming July in beautiful Maui.
